According to a study done by the Australian Department of Health, seniors over 65 years old are at a high risk of suffering from dementia. Early detection of dementia is becoming more and more common. However, cultural and linguistic barriers make it particularly easy to misdiagnose early onset dementia for Australian seniors from multi-cultural backgrounds.
The importance of early dementia detection
Early dementia detection can make a positive impact on the lives of some patients with curable cerebrovascular diseases, including those with cognitive impairment. Most of the medicines recommended for Alzheimer’s disease are useful during the mild to moderate stages of the disease.
What is RUDAS?
The Rowland Universal Dementia Assessment Scale (RUDAS) is a short cognitive screening instrument, that takes around 10 minutes to complete. It is designed to minimise the effects of cultural learning and language diversity on the assessment of baseline cognitive performance.
